Digital Leaders ...

We have student leadership teams in our elementary buildings.  Each team is designed to help promote digital citizenship and 21st century ISTE standards.  Unique. Individual.  Student centered.

Last year, students in Mrs. Reyes' room at Pleasant View Elementary School helped host a Tech Ed Camp for two sixth grade rooms to teach iMovie, Adobe Spark Video, Adobe Pages and Padlet to their peers.  However, their work was not for students alone.   In November, they held a "How to organize your Google Drive folders" class for staff.

In 2017-18,  Mrs. Notton's sixth grade classroom at Cody Elementary School in LeClaire, students met during their lunch  to help  determine how to keep digital citizenship principles moving forward in the building. They put together a survey for students in grades 3-6.

Our podcasting adventure started because of these talented Pleasant View students.  It was their initiative and ideas that truly got student voice off the ground in this digital format. This I Believe was the title of their podcast, that was completely created on their own.  They believe strongly in the power of  being a positive digital citizen.  We learned a great deal from this first episode regarding the 'tech' end and definitely made some changes in subsequent episodes.  But, we also believe in the power of embracing our mistakes and failures so that we can improve.

(update: While this group has now moved on to junior high, they created three different podcasts and were a catalyst for initiating podcasts in the Pleasant Valley School District.  Digital Leader teams are being formed in various buildings and updates on their work will be featured soon.
